The EFD-series (Economic Flat Design) was developed for applications requiring low-profile transformers. The ferrite cores are similar to the classic E-cores, but have a flatter and lower profile inner core. This, together with the coilformer, results in a lower winding section. We supply coilformers made in high quality thermoplastics, matching your production requirements. This catalogue also contains data of EFD-clips, which may be required to secure the ferrites.
Wherever high-temperature soldering processes are used in connection with EFD - series coilformers, we recommend radiation cross-linked plastics - a discussion with us could be useful.
In addition, our extensive range of modular tooling allows almost unlimited changes to accommodate customers specification. This tooling system also allows short tooling times and is very cost effective.
Should you need further assistance we look forward to hearing from you.
The coilformers are made in gfr Polyethylene Terephthalate PET of type rtg nat. (RTI long-range temperature +155°C). Pin material: tin bronze, tinned. Maximum solder temperature 300/350°C, 2 sec.
Special materials - e.g. irradiated cross-linked - and designs on request, dimensions in mm/inch.
The coilformers are fitted with straight z6 pins. Binding-on of the wires is axially. The use of thin wires allows very short soldering times. The terminal strips usually feature "noses" which provide tension-relief, and "stand-offs" which allow clean soldering of the wires and of the coilformer onto the pcb.
The coilformers are made in gfr Polyamide PA66of type A3X2G10 (RTI long-range temperature +115°C). Pin material: tin bronze, tinned. Maximum solder temperature 350°C, 2 sec.
Special materials - e.g. irradiated cross-linked - and designs on request, dimensions in mm/inch.
The coilformers are fitted with straight, sturdy z8 pins. Binding-on of the wires is axially. The pins are suitable for windings with thick wire. The terminal strips usually feature "noses" which provide tension-relief, and "stand-offs" which allow clean soldering of the wires and of the coilformer onto the pcb.
The boxes are made in gfr Polyethylene Terephthalate PET of type rtg nat. (RTI long-range temperature +155°C).
Special materials - e.g. irradiated cross-linked - and designs on request, dimensions in mm/inch.
The dimensions of the potting boxes provide these features. All standard EFD coilformers are fitted with straight z6 pins or as an alternative with z8 pins.
Together with the potting box a 1 mm/0.039 inch longer solder-pin is provided for the coilformer.
Glueing methodes are usually used to connect and secure the ferrite cores. Glues, such as Araldite, require the ferrite cores to be kept under constant pressure until the glue has hardened. A more advantageous and quicker method is by using stainless steel clips SB. The holding pressure is almost constant over the whole operating temperature range.
One clip is required to assemble a wound coilformer with one pair of ferrite cores. The use of a drop of glue is recommended, to connect the ferrites to the coilformer and to prevent frequency noise.
Dimension in mm/inch.
